Honoring a Lost Loved One on your Wedding Day

So you’re in the midst of wedding planning and you can’t help but think about a special someone in your life that has passed away whom you wish could be there to help you celebrate. You’ve been going back and forth with yourself trying to figure out how to honor them but have come up with nothing, well look no further. Check out these seven ideas:

  1. Save them a seat: During the ceremony and the reception you can honor your loved one by reserving a special seat just for them. You can put their picture or have their name written in their favorite color on the chair.

  2. Honor them in the program: You can mention their name, write a prayer or attach their favorite scripture to the back of your program.

  3. Dance to their favorite song: This idea is my favorite by far! During your first dance or at any moment in time you can honor them by dancing to their favorite song or a song that reminds you of them the most.

  4. Have a toast in their honor, followed by a moment of silence: Everyone loves a good toast! When it’s toast time have someone say something special in honor of your lost loved one, or you can even give the toast yourself!

  5. Accent your attire with something that reminds you of them: You can add an element of your lost loved one’s clothing to your wedding attire.

  6. Create a memory table or slideshow: If you have multiple lost loved ones, this idea is the best!  Not only can you decorate a table in memory of them, but you can also create a slideshow with the best memories of that person.

  7. Release balloons or lanterns in their honor: At the end of the night when it’s time for the send off of the happy couple, you can release balloons or lanterns in honor of that special person.

Your wedding should be a special occasion, so even if someone important is missing; hopefully one of the 7 ways I listed can help bring them closer to you and shine a light on their presence on your big day!

Until Next Time,
