Beat The Heat: Summer Fun for Kids

The sun is shining and beaming in all US states and it’s safe to say that summer is officially here. Being in Florida has taught me quite a few things about beating the heat. Some things are essential to survive the heat here.

Most children are out of school for the Summer and you need a plan to keep them hydrated, happy, and heat free. Take these tips and fun activities with you to make summer with your little one(s) a success.

Hydration

First things first. Hydration. This is perhaps the single most important thing to consider for the Summer. With the heat scorching it is easy for your child to dehydrate very quickly. Children are usually more active than adults and therefore they sweat more. It’s is important to replenish their fluids as much as possible. Try this recipe to create a fun, colorful, and tasty drink they’re sure to gulp down. The Frozen KoolAid Slush. Here are the ingredients:

    •    2 cups of cold water

    •    1 kool-aid packet

    •    1/2 cup of sugar

    •    4 cups of ice

Mix all the ingredients together in a blender until the ice is smooth and soft. Boom! The perfect summer drink.

Keeping Cool

The second goal for kids during the Summer is to keep them cool. The most logical answer would be to keep them inside, but if your little one is anything like mine...staying inside all day is pure torture. No worries. I’ve got you covered. Here are some ideas to keep your child cool, outside. Water, water, and more water.

Make a “sponge lei” for your child to wear around their neck, not suitable for babies. Toddlers and older kids will love this around their neck keeping them cool and don’t all kids love water?

Another way to keep cool is to cut a hole in a water bottle, tie it on top of your child’s head and then use a spray bottle or water gun to fill it up. This is a activity you can have some fun with too.

Skin Protection

The most important thing of the three is to protect your child’s skin. Make sure to use a suitable sunscreen brand and SPF to make sure you don’t damage their skin or have to deal with any painful sunburned incidents.

Follow these three Beat the Heat tips to have a cool Summer.
